The Lumbar Spine

I am particularly interested in the lumbar region of the spine because of a soccer injury I sustained in 2013. It was a non-contact injury, which arose from taking too many corner kicks before properly warming up my muscles. I ended up straining my hip flexor, and would later be told that I actually had a predisposition to this injury due to subluxation of my lumbar spine. For this reason, I decided to dedicate a separate research question to this.
The lumbar spine is the region which provides skeletal support for the lower back. It is situated just above the pelvis and hips. It is made up of five vertebrae separated by intravertebral discs composed of a fibrous material. A thick gel enclosed within the discs allows it to sustain moderate impact without injury. Since this section of the spine is the major weight-bearing portion and that most subject to flexing under tension, lower back pain is common in adults.
