On April 9th at 3:15 I resumed my capacity building on cell membranes. For me, much of it was review from Ms. Jackson's class sophomore year.
When discussing cell membranes, it is important to remember that they are fluid, not static sheets of molecules locked rigidly in place. Phospholipids can move laterally in a membrane. The flipping of phospholipids from one layer to another can rarely occur.
Membrane proteins
Functions:
- Transport
- Communication/cell signaling
- Metabolism
- Adhesion to form tissues
Passive passage- Does not require energy from the cell
1. Diffusion and facilitated diffusion
2. Osmosis and tonicity
Diffusion- The movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration
My work today was short; I ended at 3:30 PM.
